Stainless Steel Autogate Rollers Derail In Kepong
This morning, we helped un uncle in Kepong with his autogate problem. The autogate rollers were falling off the track, making the gate not work properly. The uncle always put the rollers back in place and it could work after that. But today he’s not able to do it anymore. So, he had no other option but to call us for help with repairing the autogate on-site.
Here’s what we did: First, we figured out that the rollers were coming off the track all the time, which was causing the autogate to not work. Then, we tried to fix it. We looked at different things that might be causing the rollers to come off, like maybe they weren’t in the right place, or they were too old and not working well anymore.
Autogate Bearing Hidden Inside the Gate Frame
At the top of the roller, inside the hollow part of the stainless steel gate, there’s something called a bearing. This bearing has little balls in it, and these balls have fallen out. This happened because the bearings got rusty and there wasn’t enough lubrication.
Usually, we use WD40 spray with a straw attached, and then we lie down on the floor and spray the WD40 into the small opening close to the shaft of the gate roller. This helps the lubricating oil go deep inside the ball bearings and provides protection.
Lubrication Is Important For Autogate To Function Smoothly
Lubrication is really important. When the gate opener, bearing or roller gets dry, it creates more friction, which can slow down the autogate motor.
You might also encounter difficulties in using the gate opener. If the autogate roller doesn’t move smoothly, it might get stuck halfway when you’re trying to open or close your autogate. This can make you think that the autogate arm itself is the problem.
Not All Autogate Bearings Are Created Equally
Gate rollers might seem similar at first glance, but they are actually made in different ways. Some rollers are of low quality, while others are high quality. The bearings inside the gate rollers are also crafted differently. The cost of these bearings can vary widely, ranging from RM2 to RM300, even though they might appear identical. Certain bearings are produced in Malaysia, some in China, and others are made in Belgium, France or Germany. I’ve even explained this to customers, but they find it hard to believe.
