Autogate Moving Slowly? Easy Ways to Identify the Problem & Prevent Battery Damage

Hi everyone! If both sides of your autogate open and close more slowly than usual, this is often a sign that your autogate is not receiving main power supply. When there is no direct electricity, the autogate automatically switches to its backup battery, which causes the gate to move slower than normal.

This situation commonly happens due to:

  • Electrical trip at home
  • Wiring issues
  • Faulty or damaged autogate transformer
  • Power surge caused by heavy rain or lightning

Simple Troubleshooting You Can Try First

The first step is to check your home DB box (distribution board):

  1. Look for any tripped circuit breakers and switch them back on.
  2. Turn OFF the main power supply for about 15 minutes to reset the autogate system.
  3. Turn the power back ON and test the autogate again.

Sometimes, this simple reset is enough to restore normal operation, and it’s an easy check you can do before calling a technician.

Why You Shouldn’t Delay Repairs

If the autogate is still moving slowly after resetting, it means another component is faulty. Do not delay repairs, as prolonged use of the backup battery can cause it to drain completely or become damaged.

Once the battery is fully drained:

  • The autogate may stop working entirely
  • You may be unable to open or close your gate
  • Emergency manual operation may be required

To avoid inconvenience and higher repair costs, it’s best to arrange a service inspection early.

Case Study: Faulty Autogate Transformer Causing Slow Movement

We were contacted by a customer from Seksyen 9, Shah Alam who was using a swing autogate system. The customer noticed that the autogate had been moving very slowly since the previous day.

After guiding the customer to check the DB box and reset the system, the issue remained. The customer mentioned that there had been heavy rain a few days earlier, which caused the entire house to trip. The next day, the autogate became slow, and the customer initially suspected the autogate arm was faulty.

Unable to contact the original installer, the customer reached out to us for autogate repair service.

Upon inspection, we found that the autogate transformer was damaged, likely due to power surge or lightning. Because the transformer was faulty, the autogate was running solely on battery power, causing the slow movement.

Repair Work Done:

  • Replaced the damaged autogate transformer (12V–9V–0V–9V–12V)
  • Replaced the old, depleted battery with a new high-quality autogate battery

After replacement, the autogate returned to normal speed and operation.
